Police constabulary Christopher Dube, 63, of Mukosi village in Chiwundura, was this week sentenced to an effective six years for raping a 20 year old woman.
It was the State's case that sometime in May this year, Dube and his victim were on their way to Muchakata Police Station in Chiwundura communal lands after he had arrested her for allegedly stealing a cellphone.
While walking through a bushy area, Dube solicited for sex from the woman and threatened her with jail if she rejected his overtures. Dube went on to engage in sex with the woman without her consent.
The woman reported the matter to the police on arrival at the station leading to Dube's arrest.
According to NewZimbabwe.com, Dube pleaded guilty to one count of rape when he appeared before Nemadire.
He was initially slapped with a nine year jail term but Nemadire suspended three on condition of good behaviour.
In passing sentence, Gweru magistrate Morgan Nemadire described Dube as a "disgrace" to the police force after abusing his position to rape a suspect he was supposed to protect and charge for a criminal offence.
