Kasukuwere hails Maligwa

Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Saviour Kasukuwere has applauded Mutare town clerk Joshua Maligwa for working hard to turn around the fortunes of the municipality at a time when officials in councils were engaging in corruption.
Mr Maligwa was appointed town clerk for Mutare in March this year.
Before his appointment, he was town clerk for Rusape Town Council.
Minister Kasukuwere told the Senate last week on Thursday that Mr Maligwa had excelled in a short period of time.
"Right now, I am very happy because most councils are doing well. For example, in Mutare we have put a new town clerk, Mr. Maligwa.
"He is doing very well because they are paying the current debts and arrears to their workers.
"They have come up with a payment plan and at least they are paying the current salaries well," said Minister Kasukuwere.
Mr Maligwa replaced Mr Obert Muzawazi who resigned in 2016.
Mr Muzawazi's resignation followed demonstrations, which rocked the city with residents protesting following the findings of a Government audit, which exposed rampant corruption and breakdown of service delivery at the municipality.
The special audit investigation on employment costs for the Mutare City Council was carried out as directed by the Secretary of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Engineer George Mlilo, following reports that the council's staff salaries had remained unpaid for more than 18 months.
Conducted from December 10 to 19, 2015 the audit focused on the period from June 2014 to November 2015.
Mr Maligwa was appointed town clerk for Mutare in March this year.
