Victoria Falls gets new police bases

The Business against Crime Forum of Zimbabwe (BACFOZ) Victoria Falls Chapter has handed over the recently constructed police bases with commitment from the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the private sector to ensure that the resort town remains a crime-free, peaceful and attractive tourism destination.
Peaceful and hospitable environment remains critical in the promotion of tourism.
With a view to ensuring that Victoria Falls consolidates its status as a safe and hospitable destination, BACFOZ partnered the ZRP in the setting up of three new police bases in the resort town.
Speaking during the handover ceremony of the police bases, guest of honour Victoria Falls Mayor Councillor Sifiso Mpofu highlighted the importance of partnerships.
"The benefits of a safe and secure environment cannot be over emphasized, suffice to say that it would usher a most tranquil and conducive atmosphere for the ease of doing business," he said.
Victoria Falls district Officer Commanding Police Chief Superintendent Tedias Madondo said in line with the country's mantra that Zimbabwe is open for business, there is need to strengthen cooperation between the private sector and the police in the fight against crime.
"This assistance augurs well with our thrust to rebrand our image by ensuring more visibility, giving our best service to the community and zero tolerance towards corruption," said Chief Superintendent Madondo.
Members of the BACFOZ Victoria Falls Chapter and other stakeholders who were involved in the project pledged their support in the fight against crime.
"As BACFOZ we remain committed to supporting the police in ensuring that we create a safe and conducive environment which is essential in promotion of the resort town as an attractive tourism destination," said the members.
The business against crime initiative is a project by the local corporate world meant to mobilise resources that can be channelled towards the fight against crime.
