THE Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in Matebeleland North is setting up a database of unemployed qualified teachers aspiring to work in the province.

The Ministry will today and on Thursday register the unemployed teachers at Mhlahlandlela Government Complex.

The registration exercise starts at 10AM ending at 3PM and the unemployed teachers have been advised to bring their original university or college transcripts and their national identity cards.

Acting Matebeleland North Provincial Education Director Mr Jabulani Mpofu said the Ministry will employ teachers on its database when vacant posts arise.

"We are in the process of updating our database because the previous database is no longer reliable.

"Some people have left for South Africa, while others have gone elsewhere. We are updating the data base so that in case we are to employ we should get our teachers from the updated database. So we said they should come on Tuesday (today) and Thursday for registration," said Mr Mpofu.

"In the previous database we realised that some people gave us wrong information. Some of them would claim that they completed their programmes in 2016 and after calling them for interviews we discover that they would have completed their programme last year yet we want to employ those who would have graduated earlier."

He said setting up the database does not mean there are vacant posts.

"We are not saying we have job posts but we are updating our database so that in case someone dies, retires or gets fired we would be then able to replace those individuals as it is already a paid vacant post. We are not recruiting for additional posts as the Government does not have money for new posts," he said.

A notice regarding the registration exercise is posted at the gate of the Mhlahlandlela Government Complex directing the unemployed teachers where they should report.

"All qualified teachers who once registered with Public Service Commission and Ministry of Education but are not yet employed should come for re-registration at the following offices: Public Service Commission 5th Floor, Office 5/136 or Ministry of Education - Ground Floor Office 101. Registration days: Tuesday and Thursday," reads the notice.
