MDC members who are vying for different posts ahead of the party's congress are stampeding to endorse Nelson Chamisa after they put his picture on their campaigning posters mentioning him as the only suitable candidate to lead the 20-year-old party.
A number of candidates who include Lillian Timveos, who is vying for the position of vice president, Happymore Chidziva targeting vice chairperson post and aspiring candidate for national youth assembly chairperson Lovemore Chinoputsa among others have put Chamisa's picture on their posters in what seems to be an endorsement. Some of the messages on the posters read: "Chamisa chete chete (Chamisa all the way), Chamisa for president".
MDC spokesperson Jacob Mafume said people are endorsing Chamisa because they want to associate themselves with the winning candidate. "Chamisa is the brand of the party, he is our flag bearer. If they are doing that they want to be associated with the winning brand a true, tested and tried brand.
"He has been endorsed through 2,6 million voters who voted for him and those numbers are going to increase as we go forward. He is the people's president".
