Politburo cancellation averted 'coup' against Mnangagwa

The cancellation of a ZANU-PF Politburo meeting was necessary to protect President Emmerson Mnangagwa from an alleged attempt by a faction within the ruling party to push through major decisions without following due process, a party ally has claimed.

In a statement defending the decision, the source accused opposition fringe elements, including Jealousy, of exploiting internal ZANU-PF discussions to advance political narratives and portray Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga as a central figure in alleged factional manoeuvres.

The source claimed that the cancelled meeting had been targeted by a "Gang of Four", which allegedly included ZANU-PF Secretary for Legal Affairs Ziyambi Ziyambi.

According to the statement, the group had attempted to introduce a series of far-reaching measures without the knowledge of Mnangagwa, who is the party's First Secretary, or its Secretary-General.

The source alleged that the proposed measures were not official party positions but reflected the interests of individuals seeking to bypass established procedures.

The intervention by party leaders to postpone the meeting was therefore described as an effort to prevent what the source termed a "procedural coup" against Mnangagwa.

The source further claimed that the alleged faction had not genuinely supported the President's 2030 agenda and Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3).

The allegations come amid reported internal tensions within ZANU-PF over the party's political direction and the proposed constitutional changes.

However, the claims concerning the alleged factional plot and the involvement of the named officials were not independently verified in the statement.
