The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has initiated a comprehensive crackdown on a range of unlawful activities related to unauthorized motorcades, and the use of blue lights and sirens by private or company vehicles.
The ZRP's firm stance follows sightings of politicians and church leaders utilizing motorcades and sounding sirens on the country's roads, alongside widespread disregard for traffic laws and regulations.
ZRP national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, issued a stern statement emphasizing that only the State Presidium is legally entitled to such privileges. Any attempts to circumvent this rule will face swift and decisive action.
He also warned that motorists using blue beacon lights will face consequences, as the use of such lights is restricted to the ZRP.
Any vehicle found operating on the roads without proper license plates, including government-owned vehicles and personal vehicles with bar lights, will be impounded.
