The Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHOCD) has officially launched its Manicaland chapter, reaffirming its dedication to peace-building and socio-economic development across the country. The announcement was made by Edward Tswamuno, the newly-appointed chairperson of ZHOCD Manicaland, during the launch event in Mutare on Wednesday.

The new chapter will operate across five districts in Manicaland, and brings together various church groups, including the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, the Union for the Development of Apostolic Churches in Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe, and the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace.

"This is indeed a new chapter, as the church plays a crucial role in participating in developmental initiatives that uplift our well-being," Tswamuno said in his address at the launch.

He emphasized that the collaboration between different denominations would help address the region's social and economic challenges, particularly focusing on improving the living standards of the people.

"As churches from various denominations, we have joined hands to enhance the economic and social well-being of our people," Tswamuno continued. "The church plays a significant role in complementing government programmes to develop communities. We will also pray for our country to find lasting solutions to the various challenges it is facing."

Trevor Masuku, the Secretary-General of the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe, echoed Tswamuno's sentiments, underlining the church's vital role in fostering peace and unity. He called on the faithful to continue praying for Zimbabwe to achieve peace, unity, and improved well-being for all its citizens.

"As churches, we should work hard and pray for the fruits that will make us a great country," Masuku said. "We will continue to pray for Zimbabwe to sustain peace, unity, and improve the well-being of the people."

The launch of the ZHOCD Manicaland chapter marks a significant milestone in strengthening the role of faith-based organizations in Zimbabwe's development. The newly-formed structures aim to collaborate with the government and other stakeholders to tackle pressing social and economic issues while promoting peace and unity within communities.

The establishment of the ZHOCD in Manicaland is seen as a proactive effort to contribute to the national peace-building process and the broader vision of socio-economic stability in the country.
