A gang of three suspected armed robbers has been arrested in Bulawayo following a string of violent home invasions.

The suspects, Mkhaliphi Ncube alias Mlonitshwa (25) of Cowdray Park, and Givemore Dladla (23) and Timothy Dube (28), both of Mbundane, were apprehended on Tuesday by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Homicide.

CID spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri said the trio targeted houses while the occupants were asleep, using violent methods to gain entry and intimidate victims.

"On November 14 at around 2:30 am, the suspects, along with accomplices still at large, raided a house where the victims were asleep. They damaged burglar bars and windows to gain entry before indiscriminately assaulting the occupants, demanding cash and valuables," said Detective Insp Muteweri.

Fearing for their safety, the victims surrendered $2,500, 10 cellphones, two metal detector batteries, and four power banks.

The suspects' luck ran out when detectives received information linking them to the robbery. A follow-up operation led to their arrest, and authorities recovered a Honda Fit (registration number AFC 1284) and three axes believed to have been used in the crimes. Four stolen cellphones, positively identified by the victims, were also recovered.

The suspects are implicated in another robbery in Pumula, Bulawayo, where valuables were also stolen.

In a separate incident, the CID Homicide team arrested 25-year-old Lloyd Mujeketa for vehicle theft. He allegedly stole an unattended and unlocked Honda Fit on Sunday. The car was recovered on Tuesday in central Bulawayo, where Mujeketa was caught driving the stolen vehicle.

Detective Insp Muteweri urged the public to prioritize security measures to deter criminals. "The Zimbabwe Republic Police continues to encourage members of the public to reinforce all security measures at homes, offices, and motor vehicles to avoid falling prey to criminals," she said.

The suspects remain in custody and are assisting police with investigations as authorities continue their hunt for the remaining accomplices.
