2 hrs ago | Views
The Zimbabwean government has resumed construction of the 50 villas initially planned for completion ahead of the 44th Sadc Heads of State and Government Summit in August this year. The villas are now expected to be completed by March 2025, marking a significant milestone in the development of the Zimbabwe Cyber City, located in Mt Hampden on the outskirts of Harare.
Zimbabwe Cyber City, a US$500 million mixed-use development, is being spearheaded by Mulk Holdings International and is set to revolutionize the country's economic and social landscape. The city is envisioned as Africa's first smart city, integrating cutting-edge technology with modern urban living to create a self-sustaining ecosystem that sets a new global standard for smart cities.
Paul Tungwarara, Special Investment Adviser to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, confirmed the resumption of construction and outlined the project's new targets for completion. "Currently, we are focused on the infrastructure, which includes roads, water, and sewer systems. The first phase is already moving forward, and contractors are on site," Tungwarara said during a tour of the project. He added that the 50 villas are expected to be completed by March 2025, with further development phases set to follow, including shopping malls and the iconic tower.
The Cyber City project is the first Mulk International real estate initiative in Zimbabwe, managed through its locally registered subsidiary, Zimbabwe Global Investment. The project aims to enhance the nation's infrastructure and attract global investment while offering a sustainable living environment for residents and businesses.
One of the standout features of the development will be a water fountain with a "dancing waters" feature, modeled after Dubai's famous spectacle. Tungwarara explained, "If you remember our groundbreaking, the president mentioned that we want to bring Dubai here. The dancing waters will mirror the ones in Dubai, with water flowing to the rhythm of the music. The fountain will be one of the first phases, with the total length stretching over 150 meters."
The Cyber City development, once completed, is expected to play a key role in transforming Zimbabwe's urban landscape, creating job opportunities, and fostering an environment for technological innovation. With its futuristic design and ambitious scope, Zimbabwe Cyber City is set to become a landmark project in the region, positioning the country as a leader in smart city development in Africa.
