Mnangagwa chairs final Cabinet Meeting of 2024

President Emmerson Mnangagwa today presided over the 41st and final Cabinet meeting of 2024 at State House, reflecting on a year marked by significant milestones and setting the tone for the year ahead.
In his address, President Mnangagwa lauded the Cabinet for its achievements, citing successful coordination among ministers and people-centred programmes aimed at improving the lives of Zimbabweans. However, he expressed displeasure over the recurring absenteeism of ministers and senior officials from meetings, labelling the behaviour as "untenable." He stressed the need to prioritise Cabinet business over other engagements.
The President highlighted the challenges posed by the El Niño-induced drought, urging ministries to accelerate aid delivery and address logistical barriers. He also praised the Health and Child Care Ministry for its swift response to the cholera outbreak earlier in the year, while calling for heightened vigilance against health threats such as Mpox.
On energy, President Mnangagwa reiterated the importance of adopting renewable energy to ease the strain on the national grid. He also reaffirmed government support for national housing programmes and emphasised the progress made under the decentralisation and devolution agenda, which has enhanced service delivery in health, education, and sanitation.
Looking ahead, the President called on Cabinet members to remain steadfast in advancing Vision 2030, Zimbabwe’s blueprint for achieving upper-middle-income status. He encouraged ministers to strike a balance between their official responsibilities and family time during the festive season.
President Mnangagwa concluded the meeting by thanking the Chief Secretary and the Cabinet secretariat for their dedication throughout the year. He extended holiday greetings to his Cabinet members, wishing them a joyous festive season and a prosperous 2025.
