A Nyanga-based businessman, Edward Tsarwe, was severely assaulted and robbed of US$5,000 in cash, a vehicle, and various valuables by a group of five armed robbers who attacked him as he returned home on the evening of December 6.

The incident occurred when Tsarwe, accompanied by his son, Shelton, was returning to his home from Sedze Business Centre. As they arrived at the gate, five unknown male assailants emerged from the darkness and launched a violent attack on Tsarwe.

According to Assistant Inspector Chinyoka, the Acting spokesperson for the ZRP Manicaland Provincial police, the attackers used stones to assault Tsarwe, who sustained head injuries during the assault. He was later admitted to Nyanga District Hospital and is currently in stable condition.

The robbers then confronted Shelton Tsarwe, who was behind the wheel of a Toyota Hilux (Registration Number AAB 6866). One of the assailants pulled out a pistol and threatened Shelton, demanding cash. Another robber tied Shelton's hands with a rope, forcing him to lie down while the others proceeded with the robbery.

The gang then approached the house, where Tsarwe's wife was sleeping. They knocked on the door, and when she opened it, they stormed in, brandishing firearms and demanding money. Fearing for her life, Mrs. Tsarwe handed over US$5,000 in cash to the robbers.

The thieves ransacked the house, making off with several items, including a 48-inch plasma television, two iPhones, and seven blankets. They also stole the family's Nissan X-Trail vehicle. In total, the stolen property is valued at around US$10,000.

Despite the extensive efforts to track down the criminals, nothing has been recovered thus far. Police are now appealing for any information that could help identify the suspects.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka urged the public to come forward with any leads, stating: "We are appealing to anyone with information leading to the arrest of these criminals to contact ZRP Nyanga or their nearest police station."

This violent robbery has left the local community shaken, and the police are actively investigating the case in hopes of bringing the perpetrators to justice.
