Iconic PF Zapu symbol soldier dies

Seven Dube, the soldier featured on the iconic PF Zapu symbol, has passed away. The former Matabeleland South Zapu organising secretary, Benson Tshuma, confirmed the sad news yesterday, revealing that Dube had succumbed to a long illness on Sunday.
Tshuma expressed deep sorrow over the loss, saying, "I have heard about the sad news. Dube has not been well for a long time, and his death leaves a huge gap in society and the nation at large." He added that the timing of Dube's passing was particularly poignant, as just last year, he had been discovered alive at Ezimnyama in Ward 2, Osabeni, after a long period of being out of contact.
Tshuma recalled how he had found Dube during election campaigns and was heartened by the discovery, believing that Dube would play an important role in sharing the true history of the liberation struggle. However, Tshuma noted that the baby featured in the famous PF Zapu logo, which had once been assumed to be Dube, was actually Tshetshukuza Ngwenya, who is now the councillor for Osabeni Ward 2 under the CCC ticket in the Mangwe Rural District.
The passing of Seven Dube marks the loss of a significant figure from Zimbabwe's liberation history, one whose role in the struggle will be remembered as part of the nation's complex and evolving narrative.
