Welshman Ncube says Timba doesn't represent any faction

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) factional disputes have intensified, with the Welshman Ncube-led faction firing accusations at a top member of another splinter grouping using the same party name.

Jameson Timba, who recently spent a prolonged stay in pretrial detention at Harare Remand Prison, purports to lead a faction of CCC reportedly loyal to Nelson Chamisa, the party's founding leader who abandoned the party citing Zanu-PF infiltration.

Ncube has issued a stern warning to opposition MPs, urging them to remain loyal or face unspecified disciplinary actions.

These developments come barely two weeks after opposition MPs planned to visit Precabe farm owned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Kwekwe. The aborted visit caused public outcry on social media, with many questioning Mnangagwa's claim of being a constitutionalist. Allegations have surfaced that Mnangagwa intended to use the meeting to discuss the deferment of 2028 elections.

In a statement this Friday, the Ncube-led CCC, through spokesperson Willias Madzimure, said it does not recognize Timba as the leader of the CCC party and denied the existence of any other group by the same name.

Ncube's CCC faction argued that former party leader, Chamisa, resigned over a year ago and was replaced by Welshman Ncube.

"CCC Welshman Ncube party has noted with concern a statement issued by Jameson Timba, in which he purported to be the interim party leader and chief administrator of the CCC party.

"We categorically dismiss and refute the claims made in that statement. There is no position of party leader and administrator under the CCC party Constitution," CCC spokesperson Madzimure said.

He further asserted that CCC MPs will continue serving their constituencies.

"The High Court decision, the day before yesterday, confirmed that there is only one CCC, led by acting president Prof Welshman Ncube, and one caucus in Parliament."

The rebuke by Ncube also sought to address disloyalty among CCC legislators, stemming from their planned tour of Precabe farm, which sparked an outcry among supporters and political observers.

"We warn any Member of Parliament who attends meetings of another political party, other than the one whose ticket they were elected on in August 2023, will face disciplinary action," Madzimure added.

He affirmed that Ncube is the bona fide CCC interim leader.

"For the record, Nelson Chamisa resigned as president of the CCC party over twelve months ago and was replaced by acting president Welshman Ncube, whose position has been confirmed by the latest High Court ruling."

The Ncube faction this week suspended self-styled interim secretary-general, Sengezo Tshabangu, as the ongoing tussle for control of Zimbabwe's biggest opposition movement continues.
