A 28-year-old domestic worker from Borrowdale, Harare, has appeared in court accused of working with her boyfriend to steal US$128,000 from her employer.

Linda Mubure appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo facing charges related to unlawful entry and theft.

According to prosecutors, the complainant, Margaret Zvinavashe, had intended to purchase a new house and travelled with Mubure to Borrowdale on June 8, 2026, carrying US$128,000 for the transaction. The deal was not concluded, and the pair returned home, where the money was allegedly placed in a wardrobe inside the complainant's bedroom.

The State alleges that Mubure subsequently conspired with her boyfriend, who remains at large, to steal the cash.

Court papers state that Mubure allegedly took her employer's bedroom keys to Strataven Shops, where she arranged for a locksmith to make duplicate keys.

On June 10, the complainant and Mubure travelled to a farm in Norton. Before leaving, Mubure was reportedly instructed to secure the property by locking doors and closing windows.

Prosecutors allege that Mubure deliberately left the main entrance unlocked and informed her boyfriend when the occupants had departed.

The boyfriend allegedly entered the house through the unlocked front door, used the duplicate keys to access the complainant's bedroom, and stole US$128,000 from the wardrobe before leaving undetected.

Upon returning from the farm, the complainant allegedly became suspicious when Mubure appeared to be unlocking the house despite the main entrance already being unlocked. Further concerns arose when there were no signs of forced entry, yet the bedroom had been accessed.

The court heard that the complainant later discovered the cash missing and allegedly observed Mubure deleting conversations with her boyfriend from her phone. When confronted, Mubure allegedly continued deleting the messages.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police, leading to Mubure's arrest.

The allegations remain before the court, and Mubure is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Her alleged accomplice has not yet been apprehended.
