HARARE - Fadzayi Mahere, a prominent Zimbabwean politician and lawyer, has taken to social media to criticize Members of Parliament (MPs) who prioritize building wells and boreholes in their constituencies as a measure of success.

In a Facebook post, Mahere argued that this approach is a "failure" and not a success, as it reflects the government's inability to provide basic water infrastructure. She emphasized that it is the central government's responsibility to deliver clean water to communities, not individual MPs.

Mahere highlighted that the role of an MP is to advocate for policy changes and hold the government accountable, rather than taking on the role of service providers. She called on MPs to focus on their legislative duties, such as introducing motions, participating in debates, and scrutinizing government policies.

The post has garnered significant attention, with many Zimbabweans expressing their frustration with the current state of water infrastructure in the country. Cholera outbreaks have been a recurring problem in Zimbabwe, highlighting the urgent need for improved water access and sanitation.

Zimbabwe has been facing a severe water crisis in recent years, with many communities lacking access to clean and safe drinking water. This has led to frequent outbreaks of waterborne diseases, including cholera.
