4 hrs ago | Views
Tributes continue to flood in following the passing of Zvikomborero Sibanda, a former ZBCtv news anchor and long-time media personality, who passed away today at the age of 46 in her Bulawayo home town. Those close to her revealed that she died after a prolonged battle with fibroids, a noncancerous growth that sometimes leads to complications such as infertility.
Affectionately known as Zviko or Kombo, she hailed from Mpopoma suburb in Bulawayo. Despite her extensive career in media, Kombo's personal life was marked by a deeply emotional struggle with health issues, including a fight with fibroids that prevented her from having children. She frequently spoke to friends about her condition and sought support over the years.
Fibroids, which can sometimes prevent pregnancy by blocking fallopian tubes or interfering with the implantation of a fertilized egg, were a constant source of concern for her.
Kombo began her journalism career at The Chronicle in Bulawayo in 1999 before moving on to Harare, where she became a prominent news anchor at ZBCtv. She later relocated to South Africa, where she continued to nurture her passion for storytelling, while also stepping into the retail sector. Settling in Bedfordview in the East Rand, she ran a clothing store in Ransburg, Johannesburg. Despite her new ventures, she never lost her love for journalism and would often reach out to former colleagues inquiring about possible opportunities in the media field.
More details regarding Kombo's funeral and burial arrangements are expected tomorrow, with her family and friends continuing to mourn the loss of a remarkable journalist and beloved individual.
