The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has apprehended six suspects linked to multiple robbery incidents and a case of unlawful entry into premises and theft. The arrests were confirmed by ZRP spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, in a statement issued yesterday.
The breakthrough in the case came after detectives from the CID Homicide unit in Harare received a tip-off that one of the suspects, identified as Richmore Munhundiyani, had sustained a gunshot wound. Investigations revealed that Munhundiyani had been shot by his accomplices during a robbery at a house near Dema Tollgate in Seke, Mashonaland East. Acting on the information, detectives tracked him down and arrested him at Forward Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Munhundiyani's accomplices, including Ropafadzo Bhero, Maxwell Tinarwo, James Mucheri, Francis Alfandika, and Fungai Sithole. The suspects are believed to be responsible for a string of crimes in Harare and its surrounding areas, spanning from September 2024 to February 2025.
During the arrests, police recovered several stolen items, including a 0.38 mm Smith and Wesson revolver loaded with six live rounds, plasma television sets, solar panels, gas stoves, a car battery, a car radio, and other household goods.
The suspects have been linked to various crimes, including a robbery on January 12, 2025, at Mangwende Village in Seke, where items such as a king-size bed, solar panels, cellphones, curtains, and other household goods were stolen. Another incident occurred on January 21, 2025, at Chanakira Village in Seke, where cash amounting to USD$2,030 and two cellphones were taken. They have also been connected to an unlawful entry on September 12, 2024, at a house in Glenview 3, Harare, where a 32-inch television, blankets, and other household goods were stolen.
Commissioner Nyathi commended the public for providing valuable information that aided in the arrests. He urged citizens to continue working with the police to report criminal syndicates and help curb crime in their communities.
The suspects remain in custody and are expected to appear in court soon as investigations into their activities continue.
