Education official jailed

A 64-year-old Mashonaland Central province administration officer at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has been sent to jail for submitting fraudulent travel and subsistence claims.
Frank Nyama was sentenced to one year imprisonment by Bindura magistrate Elisha Singano on Friday.
Singano conditionally suspended five months of the sentence.
Prosecutor Carson Kundiona told the court that sometime last year Nyama submitted a Travel and Subsistence claim form falsely indicating that he had travelled to Guruve, Mount Darwin, Mazowe, Rushing and Shamva for purposes of asset checks in schools and district offices in order to induce the MoPSE to pay him monies amounting to US$1670 as travel and subsistence allowances.
He misrepresented the station visits as being part of a continuous trip so that he could maximise claims, such as claims for breakfast, lunch, supper and accommodation.
