Dynamos must be punished for walk off after penalty

Dynamos FC sparked controversy on Sunday after they walked off the pitch at Mandava Stadium in protest against a penalty awarded to FC Platinum, leading to the abandonment of their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) match.

Referee Quadsani Dirwai handed FC Platinum a penalty in the 74th minute following a foul on midfielder Oscar Bhebhe inside the box. The decision, however, was met with fierce dissent from Dynamos players and coaching staff, who refused to continue the match.

This incident marks the second time this season that a penalty decision by Dirwai has resulted in a match abandonment. Earlier, a similar scenario unfolded at Rufaro Stadium when Chicken Inn walked off after Dirwai awarded Scottland a penalty.

The PSL issued a statement confirming the abandonment and announcing an investigation into the matter.

"The Premier Soccer League wishes to advise its stakeholders that the Castle Lager PSL match between FC Platinum and Dynamos FC played at Mandava Stadium on Sunday 22 June 2025 was abandoned," the statement read.

The league further noted that it is awaiting reports from match officials and will require both clubs to submit written accounts of the incident.

"The PSL strongly condemns any acts of misconduct that lead to the abandonment of matches and those found guilty will face the full wrath of the prescribed penalties," the statement warned.

As the investigation unfolds, the football community awaits the league's ruling on the contentious episode that has once again put referee Dirwai's decisions under intense scrutiny.
