Zanu-PF grapples with survival

Zanu-PF is facing mounting pressure to maintain unity as internal divisions threaten the party's long-term survival.

Analysts say factionalism and succession battles are weakening the ruling party, which has held power since independence in 1980. While President Emmerson Mnangagwa maintains control, speculation over his successor has deepened rivalries within the ranks.

"Zanu-PF has always relied on its liberation history for legitimacy, but the younger generation is demanding more. If the party fails to renew itself, it risks implosion," said political analyst Alexander Rusero.

The party's grassroots structures remain strong in rural areas, but urban support has dwindled. Economic hardships and allegations of corruption have further eroded confidence.

Party officials insist Zanu-PF remains united. However, insiders say behind closed doors, competing factions are positioning themselves for a post-Mnangagwa era.

Observers warn that the outcome of these internal struggles could shape Zimbabwe's political landscape for years to come.
