A pharmacist based at Murambinda Growth Point in Buhera has taken three police officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to court, demanding US$50 000 in damages for what she describes as a malicious arrest and prosecution.

Beatrice Zhou, in claim papers filed through Muzenda and Chitsama Attorneys, alleges she was unlawfully arrested on April 23, 2025, accused of selling supplementary medicines without a permit. She was detained overnight and released the following day.

Zhou claims that during her detention she was denied access to legal representation, food, and basic healthcare. She further alleges that despite being on her menstrual cycle, she was refused sanitary pads.

The lawsuit, filed on August 22, 2025, cites detectives Tafadzwa Siwela, Pailmer Munhenga, and Constable Mariba in their personal capacities. The officers have been given seven days to respond to the claim.

According to Zhou, the three detectives stormed her pharmacy and accused her of operating without the required licence. She insists she was neither the owner nor the person in charge of the premises, pointing out that the displayed licence made this clear.

Her claim breaks down the damages as follows: US$30 000 for denial of legal representation, healthcare, food, and inhuman treatment; US$10 000 for unlawful detention; and US$10 000 for malicious prosecution.

Zhou maintains that the charges laid against her were baseless and amounted to harassment.
