Mnangagwa hands over party vehicles

President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday reiterated that all vehicles and funds allocated to Zanu-PF officials remain the property of the party, and must strictly be used to advance its programmes ahead of the 2028 harmonised elections.
Speaking at State House while handing over 30 Ford Ranger double-cab vehicles to Central Committee members, the President — who is also Zanu-PF First Secretary — said the assets were not personal gifts but tools for party mobilisation.
"As you receive these vehicles, remember they belong to the party. You are merely custodians, tasked with ensuring the resources serve your provinces and the broader objectives of the revolutionary movement," he said.
"This is not a personal vehicle for your wife and family. It is for party work. If I discover that this directive has been defied, I will not only withdraw the vehicle but also remove you from your party position."
The handover of vehicles follows the disbursement of US$100,000 to each provincial chairperson earlier in the week, also earmarked for party programmes.
Zanu-PF Secretary-General Dr Obert Mpofu, who attended the handover, reinforced the President's message, stressing that both the vehicles and funds were strictly party property.
"Most of our activities are sustained by His Excellency, and this support is highly commendable. The cars belong to the party and are recorded in its inventory. They may be used by individuals, but only for party purposes," said Dr Mpofu.
He added that the same rules applied to the cash allocations. "The US$100,000 given to each province is not personal money. It belongs to the party. The chairman's responsibility is to supervise its prudent use in strengthening mobilisation and other programmes."
Dr Mpofu said the gesture was in line with President Mnangagwa's consistent support for party structures, crediting the leadership's direction for making Zanu-PF "perhaps the most efficiently run party in the region."
The latest allocations are part of the ruling party's broader preparations for the 2028 elections, with President Mnangagwa urging officials to prioritise discipline, accountability, and unity in the use of party resources.
