Zimbabwe's campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is gaining momentum, with more than 70 countries reportedly engaged to support the nation's candidature, Ambassador Taonga Mushayavanhu, Zimbabwe's Permanent Representative to the UN, has revealed.

Speaking on the sidelines of ongoing diplomatic efforts in New York, Amb Mushayavanhu said, "We have engaged about 70 countries. We have been working hard to ensure our bid succeeds. We are continuing with this campaign."

The country's diplomatic push includes high-level meetings, such as the bilateral discussion held by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Amon Murwira with Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma Theresa Lazaro. Both nations are competing for non-permanent seats, with Manila representing Asia.

Minister Murwira described the meeting as productive and said he plans to hold further discussions leading up to the official launch of Zimbabwe's campaign.

Securing a non-permanent seat on the UNSC will afford Zimbabwe increased influence on the global stage, enabling participation in legally binding decisions and contributions to international peace and security.

Zimbabwe's foreign policy continues to emphasize its stance as a peace-loving nation, committed to being "a friend to all and an enemy to none," highlighting its readiness to play a constructive role in global diplomacy.
