War veterans in Manicaland province have come out guns blazing against Manicaland Provincial Affairs Minister Advocate Misheck Mugadza's office over the misuse of US$10,000 meant for a borehole and housing scheme launch in Buhera.
Bulawayo24.com has it on good record that US$10000 was disbursed to the provincial Minister's office to purchase fuel for the transportation of war veterans across the entire province to attend the Presidential Borehole and Housing Scheme Launch in Buhera. =However, only US4000 was availed resulting in low turnout in Buhera as some districts failed to come.
Contacted for comment Minister Mugadza said he was not aware of the case and referred all questions to his official Jos Mashingaidze.
"Let me refer you to my director who was involved in the program. It's my first time hearing this,"Mugadza said.
Mashingaidze confirmed that US$10,000 was disbursed and US$4,000 was used for fuel.
"You are correct that 4,000 was used to procure fuel because that was what was allocated. To the best of our knowledge, there was no abuse of fuel," Mashingaidze said.
"We rely on well-wishers to provide transportation for such events. Unfortunately in one district, a bus that was initially offered was withdrawn due to technical challenges. Otherwise War Veterans were ferried from Chimanimani, Chipinge, Mutasa, Mutare, Makoni and Buhera Districts," added Mashingaidze.
After further quizzing Mashingaidze on how the remainder US$6000 was used she referred the reporter to DJ Masomere who never answered questions sent to him up to the time of this writing.
However, there was chaos at the veterans meeting since there was looting of bicycles and food hampers during the launch of the program.
