Musician Tocky Vibes has revealed that his recent album launch at Alexandra Sports Club in Harare ended in a financial setback exceeding US$25,000, after the highly anticipated event drew a disappointing turnout. The launch of his new album, Mashangurapata, was intended as a star-studded celebration featuring popular acts such as Killer T, Feli Nandi, Oriyano, Tamy Moyo, Kurai Makore, Seh Calaz, Silent Killer, and Andy Muridzo. However, only a small number of fans attended, leaving organisers stunned.

The flop sparked debates on social media, with many attributing the poor turnout to competing events and questioning whether Tocky's online popularity accurately reflects his drawing power for live shows. Despite the setback, Tocky and his team are taking the experience in stride.

Tocky's manager, Temptation "Mount Zion" Chirenje, announced that the artiste would hold a free show as a second launch of the album to reconnect with fans and offer an opportunity for those unable to attend the initial event. "Despite our financial loss and criticism on social media, we are more committed than ever to reconnect with our fans," Chirenje said. He emphasised that Tocky is focused on creating new music and remains undeterred by the disappointment.

The manager highlighted that all arrangements for the original launch had been made well in advance, with all expenses settled, making postponement impossible. Competing events in Harare, such as the 25th Chibuku Road To Fame at Gwanzura Stadium and the Jacaranda Festival at Thornpark Polo Club, likely contributed to low attendance, Chirenje admitted, but insisted that the setback would not deter Tocky from moving forward.
Tocky's team expressed gratitude for the support received from fellow musicians and promoters following the launch, noting that encouragement from peers who have faced similar challenges has been uplifting. Chirenje stressed that online criticism will not sway the artiste, who remains resilient and focused on producing quality music.

While the weekend's launch may be considered one of the "Flops of the Year," observers note that Tocky's bold approach, meticulous planning, and commitment to his craft demonstrate his potential both as a musician and as an event organiser. Analysts suggest that with careful planning and marketing adjustments, Tocky's future events could still succeed, turning last weekend's disappointment into a valuable learning experience.

Raised in Rugare, Harare, Tocky Vibes has consistently shown talent and determination, and despite the challenges, he and his team remain optimistic about his musical journey.
