HARARE - A social media user, Herbert Mate, has claimed that both physical and online surveys conducted across Zimbabwe indicate that a majority of citizens and ZANU PF members support President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term extension to 2030, despite widespread public debate and constitutional concerns.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Mate referenced surveys allegedly conducted by @Varakashi4ED, stating that support for Resolution Number 1 - which seeks to extend Mnangagwa's presidency - is growing nationwide.
"Resolution Number 1 loading. The physical survey and the online survey conducted by @Varakashi4ED countrywide indicated that the majority of Zimbabweans and ZANU PF members are in favour of Resolution Number 1, which seeks to extend President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa's term of office up to 2030," Mate posted.
He attributed the support to ongoing development projects and the President's Vision 2030 mantra, which promises inclusive growth.
"Many people we interviewed indicated that developments being done all over the country are the reason why they want him to lead us to Canaan, the promised land (Vision 2030)."
Mate added that citizens are fully behind the President's message:
"As we march towards #Vision2030, no one and no place will be left behind."
"This automatically tells you that indeed, Zimbabwe will be an upper middle-income society by the year 2030," he posted.
The claim comes amid open public opposition to the proposed extension, which critics argue would violate the Constitution, limiting presidents to two terms. The debate is expected to intensify ahead of the ZANU PF National People's Conference in Mutare.
