HARARE - Outspoken war veteran Blessed Geza has announced that he is considering calling off the one-million march protest, citing an alleged statement by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga discouraging public demonstrations and labelling them illegal.
Posting on his X account, Geza warned that if Chiwenga aligns with President Emmerson Mnangagwa's stance, he risks being seen as a betrayer of the people.
"I warned yesterday that if Gen Chiwenga attempts to dance to Emmerson's tune and betray the people, we'll hold him accountable for his actions… As a matter of fact, we're considering cancelling tomorrow's demo," Geza wrote.
The protest, initially planned as a mass mobilisation against Mnangagwa's leadership, has drawn attention amid rising political tensions and factional battles within ZANU PF.
A statement circulating on social media, purportedly from Chiwenga, urges citizens not to participate in the protest, describing it as unlawful. The authenticity of the statement has not been officially confirmed.
Geza's remarks come just days after journalist Hopewell Chin'ono predicted that the protest would not materialise unless the military itself joined or protected demonstrators, citing past crackdowns on dissent.
