Flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo has once again extended his generosity to Highlanders Football Club, disbursing an additional US$250,000 as part of a US$1 million sponsorship package pledged earlier this year.
The latest payment brings the total amount released so far to US$500,000, with the remaining half expected to be paid in December and February. Chivayo said the funds were meant to "secure new talent and cover player sign-on fees to foster a more competitive 2025 Premier Soccer League campaign."
In his announcement, Chivayo congratulated the Bulawayo giants for their recent "victory over Scotland" and commended their overall performance, which he said could accelerate the release of the remaining funds.
"They've received 250; this will be the second payment making it 500 thousand USD. The balance is due in December and February but can always be settled earlier depending on their impressive performance," he stated.
Chivayo also showered praise on Highlanders Curator Jabulani Nkomo, rewarding him with a Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series VXR and US$50,000 cash for "fuel and petty expenses."
"Congratulations are in order to my Curator Mr Jabulani Nkomo who has done an amazing job. Please go and see Farai at Faramatsi Motors... and collect a Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series VXR and 50 thousand USD in cash," Chivayo said, adding that the vehicle and cash were Nkomo's personal property.
The gesture further cements Chivayo's growing reputation as one of Zimbabwean football's most high-profile benefactors, following previous donations to clubs such as Dynamos and CAPS United.
Highlanders, who have faced financial constraints in recent years, are expected to use the funds to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2025 season as they aim to reclaim the Premier Soccer League title.
