A two-month-old baby girl was reportedly abducted on 15 November 2025 in Gweru's central business district, police have confirmed.

The incident occurred at around 1:40 pm outside Edgars Stores when the infant's mother, 26-year-old Faith Jakaza, briefly left the baby in the care of her six-year-old daughter to purchase bananas from a nearby vendor.

Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Midlands provincial police spokesperson, said:

"When Jakaza returned moments later, the elder child told her the baby had been taken by an unknown woman."

Despite Jakaza's frantic search and cries for help, the infant had disappeared, prompting a police manhunt for the suspect.

Inspector Mahoko urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in locating the baby and recovering her safely. He also reminded parents and guardians to keep close watch over children and infants at all times.

The police continue to investigate the abduction, appealing to witnesses in the Gweru CBD area to report any relevant information.
