Geo Pomona Waste Management Company has strengthened Harare's waste collection capacity following the arrival of a new fleet of specialised equipment from Beira, Mozambique.

The machinery, which includes compactor skippers, street sweepers and skip trucks, was delivered on Saturday and is expected to significantly boost operational efficiency across the capital. Officials say the acquisition marks another major step in efforts to restore Harare's long-lost "Sunshine City" status.

Since its establishment, Geo Pomona has become a central player in modernising the city's waste management system through technological upgrades, expanded manpower and the rehabilitation of long-neglected refuse collection structures.

Speaking to journalists, Geo Pomona chief executive Dilesh Nguwaya said the latest investment highlights the company's commitment to world-class waste management across Zimbabwe.

"This acquisition is part of our strategy to enhance our ability to carry out our mandate. The 56 new pieces of equipment offer a diverse range of capabilities to conduct waste management and refuse collection. With these additions, we are approaching an optimal level to deliver on our mandate," he said.

The equipment adds to a growing fleet of compactors, skip trucks and sweepers commissioned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in May, signalling Government's prioritisation of sanitation, environmental rehabilitation and urban modernisation.

Work is also progressing at the Pomona waste-to-energy site, where major aesthetic upgrades are underway. Beautification projects continue, and construction of a state-of-the-art restaurant within the complex is nearing completion, positioning the facility as a modern, multifunctional space that integrates waste-to-energy innovation with public engagement.

In addition to equipment upgrades, the company recently enhanced its workforce by recruiting more than 400 street sweepers. The new recruits are working alongside Harare City Council's waste management teams, resulting in visible improvements in cleanliness across several suburbs and the central business district.

Geo Pomona officials say the latest developments reflect a coordinated, results-driven approach to urban sanitation and service delivery.
