A special envoy from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) met President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare on Wednesday to brief him on ongoing international efforts aimed at restoring peace in the conflict-ravaged eastern regions of the DRC.

The envoy, DRC Minister of Regional Integration Floribert Anzuluni Isiloketshi, said he was dispatched by President Felix Tshisekedi to update President Mnangagwa on peace initiatives being facilitated through engagements in the United States and Qatar.

Speaking to journalists after the closed-door meeting, Minister Isiloketshi said the visit was part of a broader diplomatic outreach to African leaders to rally continental support for a sustainable solution to insecurity in eastern DRC.

"We are engaging African leaders to ensure that the peace processes underway receive full regional backing so that lasting peace can be achieved in eastern DRC," he said.

Minister Isiloketshi added that Zimbabwe's role and experience in regional peace and security efforts made its support particularly important.

As part of the regional diplomatic tour, the Congolese envoy on Tuesday held similar consultations in Togo and Congo-Brazzaville. He is also expected to visit Zambia and South Africa as he continues his mission to brief leaders and seek collective African support for peace efforts.

Eastern DRC has been plagued by prolonged armed conflict involving multiple rebel groups, prompting renewed international and regional initiatives aimed at stabilising the area and restoring security.
