PLUMTREE - A Mlowe Primary School teacher, Thembo Khethiwe (49), has been fined US$200 after being convicted of assaulting a colleague during a dispute over a pit.

Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware handed down the sentence, warning that failure to pay the fine by 31 December will result in one month's imprisonment.

The court heard that on 11 November, Khethiwe had a misunderstanding with fellow teacher Siluma Gcinani (31). During the altercation, Khethiwe slapped Gcinani once on the face.

Gcinani later filed a police report, leading to Khethiwe's arrest and subsequent conviction.
