The High Court has temporarily halted the rape trial of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries leader Walter Magaya.
The trial, which was scheduled to continue at the Magistrates' Court, was stayed after High Court Judge Tawanda Chitapi granted an urgent chamber application filed by Magaya seeking to pause the proceedings.
Magaya faces allegations of raping four complainants. In his application, he challenged the court's decision to hear the matter at the Victim Friendly Court away from the public, arguing that the proceedings should take place in an open court to safeguard his right to a fair trial.
Justice Chitapi ruled that the trial cannot proceed until the High Court has fully considered and determined Magaya's review application. A date for the full hearing of the matter is yet to be set.
