Police in Bulawayo have launched a manhunt for a 54-year-old suspect accused of killing his wife following a domestic dispute in Lovendale suburb.
The suspect, identified as Titus Masiya, is alleged to have fatally assaulted his wife, Samkeliso Adams, a mother of four.
According to police, the incident occurred on the night of March 29 after an argument between the couple over a phone number saved on the woman's mobile device.
Nomalanga Msebele said the dispute initially subsided, with the couple going to bed, but escalated in the early hours of March 30.
"At around 2am, the accused allegedly took a plank and struck the deceased repeatedly all over the body. She attempted to run away, but he pursued her and continued the assault," she said.
Neighbours who were alerted by the disturbance reportedly intervened and rushed the injured woman to Mpilo Central Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
Police have appealed to members of the public for any information that may assist in locating and apprehending him, as investigations into the matter continue.
