President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to officially open the fourth edition of the National Education Summit Zimbabwe (NESZ 2026), scheduled for the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair grounds in Bulawayo from May 27 to 30.

The summit will run under the theme "From Policy to Practice: Driving Innovation and Investment in Zimbabwe's Education System," and is expected to bring together senior government officials, education experts, development partners, private sector leaders and civil society organisations.

NESZ 2026 is being convened by Action for Empowerment Zimbabwe in partnership with Business Diary and in collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, led by Minister Torerai Moyo.

Organisers say the high-level gathering will focus on translating education policy into practical, measurable outcomes aimed at improving Zimbabwe's education system.

A wide range of government ministers are expected to attend, including Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube, among other Cabinet members responsible for key sectors of the economy and public service delivery.

The summit will also feature participation from parliamentarians, including portfolio committee chairs and youth and gender representatives, alongside education stakeholders, unions and financial sector actors.

Organisers say about 3 000 delegates are expected to attend, drawn from government ministries, schools, church-run institutions, school development committees and private sector organisations.

Key discussions will focus on sustainable education financing, teacher empowerment, digital transformation, inclusive education and strengthening public-private partnerships in the sector.

Speaking ahead of the event, organiser Alson Darikayi said the summit aims to move beyond policy discussion and focus on actionable solutions that can be implemented at school and community level.

"We are bringing together all key players to co-create solutions that are not only innovative but also implementable and sustainable," Darikayi said.

The summit will conclude with a communiqué outlining recommendations aimed at improving learning outcomes, modernising infrastructure and strengthening the education system nationwide.

NESZ 2026 continues from previous editions held under the National Education Conference and Exhibition banner, with past summits hosted in Harare and Masvingo, as organisers plan to rotate future events across provinces to broaden participation.
