Patriotic Vendors4ED Matabeleland North Province on Saturday officially launched its Tsholotsho District Chapter, marking what leaders described as a major step in strengthening grassroots mobilisation ahead of the upcoming rural district council by‑elections.
The launch, held at Tsholotsho Centre on 6 June 2026, also served as a post‑mortem review of the organisation’s provincial launch held in March and a platform to intensify campaigning for Zanu PF candidates contesting in Wards 1, 10 and 21.
Senior Zanu PF officials, affiliate leaders, vendors and community members attended in large numbers. Among the notable guests was Matabeleland North Women’s League chairlady Dora Msimanga, who attended as guest of honour alongside Tsholotsho District DCC committee member Sikhosana, DCC secretary for administration Nkosikhona Khumalo, Tsholotsho Rural District Council representative Moyo, Patriotic Vendors4ED national executive member Cynthia Sibanda and provincial chair Ruth Sibanda.
Addressing delegates, Msimanga praised the affiliate organisation for its commitment to Zanu PF programmes and mobilisation efforts.
“I commend Patriotic Vendors4ED for being well organised, always active and fully committed to Zanu PF National People’s Party campaigns. Thank you for your great effort and for carrying the party’s message to the ground,” she said.
She also applauded the organisation’s national leadership under Sawu Jere and commended the provincial executive led by Cynthia Nkomo and Ruth Sibanda for maintaining strong structures in Matabeleland North.
“Matabeleland North is well represented. The provincial leadership is visible on the ground and continues to mobilise people effectively at grassroots level,” she said.
Tsholotsho Rural District Council representative Moyo said the emergence of Patriotic Vendors4ED had given informal traders an important platform to participate in national development discussions.
“It is encouraging to see vendors now having representation at national level. This gives informal traders a stronger voice in developmental and policy matters affecting their livelihoods,” he said.
After the formal proceedings, members embarked on a door‑to‑door campaign across Tsholotsho as part of efforts to rally support for Zanu PF candidates ahead of the 20 June 2026 by‑elections set by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
The by‑elections were triggered by the dismissal of former Tsholotsho Rural District councillors Witness Khumalo (Ward 1), Jonathan Ndlovu (Ward 10) and Felix Tshuma (Ward 21) after an independent tribunal found them guilty of criminal abuse of office and fraud involving CAMPFIRE funds.
Patriotic Vendors4ED leaders said the organisation would continue mobilising vendors and communities across the district to ensure strong voter turnout for the ruling party candidates.
“We are moving door‑to‑door because we want every community member and vendor to understand the importance of participating in these by‑elections,” said one organiser.
The launch ended with renewed calls for unity and intensified grassroots mobilisation as campaigning enters its final phase in Tsholotsho.
