ZRP in massive Harare Central complex rehabilitation

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has embarked on a comprehensive modernisation, rehabilitation and repair programme at the Harare Central Police complex as the force moves to improve infrastructure and working conditions at one of the capital's key policing centres.
The extensive works will cover the ZRP Harare Central Provincial Headquarters, District Headquarters, police stations and various sections housed within the sprawling complex.
According to the police, the rehabilitation programme will include critical facilities such as the reception area, detention cells, roofing, waterproofing systems and the entire yard.
"The ZRP has embarked on a comprehensive modernisation, rehabilitation and repairs at ZRP Harare Central complex," the police said in a statement.
"The massive repairs will cover the Provincial Headquarters, District Headquarters, Stations and all sections housed at the premises including the reception area, detention cells, roofing and water proofing system and the whole yard."
The project is expected to give the ageing complex a major facelift while improving the functionality and condition of facilities used by police officers, detainees and members of the public visiting the premises.
The Harare Central complex serves as an important policing hub, accommodating several police offices and operational sections responsible for policing the capital.
The rehabilitation programme is expected to address deteriorating infrastructure and create a more conducive working environment for officers, while also improving facilities accessed by members of the public.
The initiative comes amid broader efforts by the police to modernise infrastructure and strengthen operational capacity as the force responds to the demands of policing a rapidly growing urban population.
The scope of the project, covering both buildings and external areas, points to a comprehensive overhaul rather than isolated maintenance work.
The ZRP said the programme formed part of its commitment to improving police infrastructure and creating better facilities to support effective service delivery.
