'I know whatever Tsvangirai promises will not happen' says Mawere

Businessman Mutumwa Mawere, who last week endorsed MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai for the July 31 polls, yesterday made an about-turn and blasted Tsvangirai saying he is not a genius and would not be able to fulfil his election promises should he become president of this country, the state media reported Saturday.
Mawere said this while addressing the press on his political stance prior to the harmonised elections slated for this end of this month.
He denied that he had formed the United Movement for Democracy and said he harboured no presidential ambitions for Zimbabwe.
"Never trust anyone with power including me because its only me who knows what is in my mind. I do not need Tsvangirai to promise anything because I know whatever he promises will not happen unless I make it happen myself.
"When you chose a leader, you must be careful. I did not say I endorse MDC-T. I only endorsed Tsvangirai from the list of five presidential candidates. I encourage you to participate and never compromise that. For the people who are not going to vote for Tsvangirai, I am not going to ask you to.
"On the election day you might say Tsvangirai is going to be a genius, I do not think so. You have to be a genius to make him a genius. If you do nothing, your life will be at stake. If you have to vote, do so wisely," Mawere said.
He hailed President Robert Mugabe for his wisdom and experience as a leader.
"If this were an examination, only one person will pass to be President of this country and that is President Robert Mugabe. Nobody else can pass the exam. This is because he has been there for the past 33 years," he said.
Mawere refuted claims that he had launched his owned political party with the help of MDC chairman Joubert Mudzumwe.
"I do not have a follower behind me, I only had one hour after I obtained my citizenship on June 27, a day before the nomination closed. You cannot say Mawere was my leader because for me to be a leader I must satisfy the laws of leadership of the country.
"I only got to know about Mudzumwe after he established a party that I do not know. He got arrested and said Mawere is our leader. That is in his own dream, I cannot be your leader and I am not a candidate.
"Sorry if you are looking for a leader and my name is not one of them. The truth is that I am not a member of the party and could not have been even if I wanted."
He said he has no ambitions to lead any political party.
After the press conference, Mawere hurriedly left, leaving a small batch of UMD party supporters who expected him to address them afterwards.
