Six suspected MDC-T activists have been arrested in connection with intra- party violence that occurred in Chitungwiza on the 2nd of March.

The six: John Kutiya, Morgan Mutazu, Gladmore Chikumbirike, Matthew Jena, Nyasha Pangiti and Prosper Nyakunengwa, were picked up by the police in connection with the assault of a fellow party member, Talent Nyakunengwa.

ZRP National Spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said the six were arrested after they assaulted Nyakunegwa, following misunderstandings over the holding of a political rally.

The victim sustained serious head injuries.

"The six assaulted Nyakunengwa all over his body with booted legs and clenched fists until he fell unconscious. He sustained a deep cut on the head and a swollen lip. The suspects are still in police custody and will go to court soon. We want to warn that perpetrators of politically motivated violence will be dealt with in accordance with the country's laws," Senior Assistant Commissioner Charamba said.

The latest spate of intra-party violence within the MDC-T follows the assault the party's Deputy Treasurer General, Elton Mangoma in the presence of the party leader, Morgan Tsvangirai a few weeks ago.

Secretary General, Tendai Biti escaped but his house was later petrol-bombed.

Meanwhile, another MDC-T member, Paul Gorekore has been arrested in connection with the assault of Mr Mangoma, bringing to six the number of those implicated.
