Stabiliser Kadafi, a Kadoma-based man, has been jailed for 20 years for the alleged politically motivated violence of an opposition party activist in 2008.

Kadafi, also known by the nick name 'Chuck Norris', was convicted by High Court Judge, Justice Esther Muremba for murdering John Max, whom he labelled a political sell-out.

Kadafi was at one time a fugitive from justice, which led to his co-accused being tried in his absence.

Kadafi fled after the deceased's fatal attack, which occurred in August 2008 and was only apprehended recently, leading to his court appearance.

His co-accused were Nobert Muzhingi, Thabani Mashonganyika, Sikhumbuzo Madhuveko and Mangisi Mutandavari.

They were each jailed for 15 years by High Court Judge Felistas Chatukuta.

According to the State, Max died due to serious injuries he sustained after being attacked by the group.

The court heard that the group was staying at Buffalo and Tiger Mine in Kadoma during the time they committed the offence.

On the fateful day, the group took Max to a nearby bush at the mine, at Kadafi's instance.

Max was made to lie down as the group attacked him all over his body using switches for being a State witness in an assault case against them during the presidential run-off elections.

After assaulting him, Kadafi ordered that Max immediately vacate his residence and he ordered patrons at the beer-hall to converge at the deceased's residence to effect eviction.

In his defence, Kadafi denied ever getting involved in Max's death.

He said Muzhingi, Mashonganyika, Strive Majabhiya and Norman Sande were the culprits in the murder case.

Kadafi said when he arrived, he saw his co-suspects assaulting Max and ordered them to stop.

He said his co-accused claimed Max had stolen their gold ore.
