Mugabe caps 1 490 BUSE graduands

President Robert Mugabe has capped 1 490 students who graduated with various degrees at the Bindura University of Science Education.

The graduands were drawn from the faculties of science education, science, agriculture and environmental science, commerce and science and humanities.

Of the students who graduated, 1 064 were undergraduates, one of them posthumously.

Ninety-three were post graduates, including one who received a doctorate, while 333 were awarded post-graduate diplomas, diplomas and certificates in different disciplines.

In his report, BUST vice chancellor, Professor Eddie Mwenje said the university has made great strides in promoting science education in the country, which has a 40% increase in the number of graduands this year compared to last year.

Professor Mwenje added that the institution's research on anti-venom against two of the deadliest snakes - the cobra and puff adder is progressing well with three patents having been registered.

Those who attended the 14th BUSE graduation ceremony included the Acting Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Dr Lazarus Dokora, his deputy, Dr Godfrey Gandawa and the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Mashonaland Central, Advocate Martin Dinha, among others.
