Communities have learnt it the hard way as resources at our rural schools are not forthcoming. Many schools in Matabeleland Region are recording 0% pass-rate every year, the main reason being the shortage of stationery, text books and at times fees.

Zamanyoni secondary school is one of the schools that need attention as a lot of things are not in order at this school.

All practical subjects at the school have been removed as the school  can not afford to sustain the demands that come with the teaching of practical subjects. Mr Khulani Ndlovu a former student at the school assisted the school for a number of years before 6 more former students joined him. In 2008 a group called Zamanyoni Old Students Association was formed, the main aim being to assist the school.

The group is growing bigger and bigger everyday.

ZOSA is currently busy raising funds in order to finance its projects at the school.

Today people from all over Matabeleland region gathered at KDM Granite to support this fundraising initiative. Many old students associations attended, My School My Future and MESA.

Amabhukudwana, Abafana BakaMzilikazi, Tsholotsho King and many more entertained the guests. There was braai, beer and drinks on sale.

The attendance was very good, about 150 guests attended.when interviewed the ZOSA chairman Mr K Ndlovu said the money raised will be used to assist the school reintroduce practical subjects such as agriculture, Building, fashion and fabrics and home economics.

This will help broaden the subjects selection for the learners. ZOSA is preparing to introduce agriculture with production at the school next year in February.

Msidc will assist in some of these projects.Mr K Ndlovu said ZOSA is planing to involve communities in all its future projects in order to create sustainability.

Chief Fuyane encouraged communities to emulate what ZOSA had done,he said communities need such initiatives if our schools are to develop and produce good pass rates.

The event will remain an annual event and it continues to grow.
