A Vitoria Falls woman stabbed her boyfriend on the chest with a pair of scissors, saying she was irritated by his insistently asking her why she had gone on a drinking spree with another man.
Patrick Moyo (29) narrowly escaped death as the scissors penetrated the left side of his chest, under the armpit.
He was admitted to Victoria Falls District Hospital on Tuesday on the verge of death.
His girlfriend, Carol Ncube (28), appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Sharon Rosemani and pleaded not guilty to physical abuse.
She said she was forced to stab her live-in boyfriend because he had started assaulting her in anger.
She said Moyo had abandoned her at home as he went to drink with friends and she had asked his brother to accompany her while she went to look for him.
Ncube said Moyo suddenly caught up with her and demanded to know who she had left their house with, in a taxi.
"I don't know who had misled him and started savagely beating me. I had to defend myself," said Ncube.
Moyo said Ncube was lying that he was the first to assault her adding he arrived home at midnight and found her not at home.
He said when she eventually arrived, told the court that it was not true that he had first assaulted his girlfriend.
He said she started shouting at him when he asked where she had been and slapped him before stabbing him.
Moyo told the court that he arrived home at midnight and found his girlfriend not there.
Moyo said an anonymous caller told him Ncube was drunk at Sports Bar with two men.
He said when he got to the bar, he saw her getting into a taxi with two men and he jumped into another taxi and followed her, dragged her home and asked for an explanation.
Moyo said Ncube slapped and stabbed him and only remembered waking up in hospital.
The magistrate remanded Ncube out of custody to 8 April on $100 bail.
Ncube was also ordered not to interfere with her boyfriend until the case was concluded.
