Taxi war erupts in Gwanda
01 May 2015 at 10:07hrs | Views
People waiting to be served at the Gwanda Government Complex were treated to a free watch of a taxi war when kombi operators pounced on a pirate taxi carrying people to Maphisa.
Touts ransacked the Toyota Ipsum and pulled bags in ugly scenes that have become prevalent in the mining town 123 kilometres south-east of Bulawayo.
Children wailed as they were shoved back and forth the taxis that caused the pirate taxi before forcing it off the road near the government complex that also houses the Gwanda Passport Office.
Taxi wars have become common in Zimbabwe where mobile phones, food supplying and transport are the only viable businesses. Most of the Kombis operating from Gwanda are owned by police officers who turn a blind eye to the unruly behaviour of touts they employ.
