A Gweru man who allegedly killed his mother by stabbing her five times with a kitchen knife, appeared in court for speeding off from a service station without paying for petrol.

A day after allegedly killing his mum, whose body he left locked in the living room, Kudakwashe Ashley Sibanda went to Total Service station in Gweru and ordered a full tank of petrol worth $63.

He sped off leaving a bemused petrol attendant, Solomon Gandiwa, shouting for help. He appeared before Gweru magistrate Shotgame Musaiwona facing one count of making off without payment. He pleaded guilty and Musaiwona fined him $30.

"The offence that you committed is on the increase. Motorists go to a filling station and get away without paying. You did not show any remorse, although you pleaded guilty. You also benefited from the crime," said Musaiwona.

"However, the court will consider you are a first offender and you readily pleaded guilty therefore you deserve a discount as you didn't waste the court's time. You've to pay a fine of $30 or 20 days in prison, in addition, 30 days imprisonment is suspended on condition you restitute $63 to Total Midlands Centre, Gweru."

The prosecutor, Bernard Nyoni told the court that on December 4 this year around 1AM and at Total Service Station in Gweru, Sibanda ordered Solomon Gandiwa to fill his motor vehicle's tank with petrol. Nyoni said when Gandiwa went to the driver's side to collect payment, Sibanda drove off at high speed.

Sibanda told the court he needed the fuel to go to Harare. "Your worship, I really needed to go to Harare but I had no money to pay for the fuel to fill the vehicle's tank," he said.

In another case, Sibanda was remanded to December 23 for allegedly killing his mother and stealing her car. He allegedly killed a pedestrian in a hit and run incident at Norton, on his way to the capital.
