COMMENT OVERVIEW
- The above pericope is extracted from the book of 1st Kings ,the book of Kings is overcrowded by so many prophets. Some of them played a pivotal role in Israel ,for instance Elijah. The above pericope gives us a picture about the exhausted ,broken, lance prophet [Elijah the Tishbite].He went to the mountain after being the hero of the hour [Ewbank].
ANSWERS OF GOBBET
- The context of the gobbet is Elijah desiring for death. This occurred when Jezebel the wife of Ahab was seeking for his life for he had butchered the 850 false prophets [400 Baal +450 Asherah goddess].The form of the extract it's PROSE .The source of the gobbet is J-SOURCE for the name of the deity "LORD" is in capitals .Elijah went into the wilderness after butchering the prophets ,this is similar to Moses who went into the wilderness after killing the Egyptian ,the reference regards Elijah as the second Moses .Elijah desired to die ,as such scholars like Ronald Allen have labeled him as a broken prophet .Dr Thomas Constable noted that Elijah seem to have experienced the discipline of his weak faith and same education that God gave Israelites during the exodus event.
