Ajax Hotspurs (1) 2 - 0 Luveve Big XI

Ajax Hotspurs finally remembered how to win with a classic five star performance that left fans clamoring for more. As predicted in our match preview, new signing former Zimbabwe Saints midfield dynamite Maxwell Mburayi gave a flawless masterstroke display capping a fine afternoon's display with a sweetly struck grass-mower that beat the diving Luveve Big XI goalkeeper all systems out.

Ajax Hotspurs who dominated from the onset with Mburayi, Nqobilizwe Ncube and Kingsley Best's intricate play causing havoc in the oppositions half showed their intent with Mburayi missing the left upright as early as the third minute. The goal hungry Mburayi came shouting once again when his neatly struck half volley caught the Big XI goalminder napping but did well to punch the ball for a corner kick. Ncube played a quick one-two with undeniably man of the match Kingsley but a time interception by a defender stole the chance for Ncube to be face to face on goal.

Compact in midfield, resolute in defence and intricate in attack, Hotspurs looked hungrier for the first time and playing with intent. Hillary Madzivanyika controlled the central midfield with aplomb and captain Yaya Toure directed the operations with guidance of a veteran. As per his promise with the Ajax News on the team's website, Toure was full of vev and zest and that was the tonic the youngstars were looking for. In the second half Hotspurs upped their game in search of a goal to cushion their lead and they could have been 2, 3, 4 or5 up but Ncube was the chief culprit spurning good opportunities to get his side into the driving seat.

However Ajax Hotspurs could not be denied their place in the sun in this freezing Saturday afternoon when Ncube weaved his way through a cluster of defenders and his legs were taken away from him in the box. To utter surprise of everyone including Big XI defenders, the referee Jele gave an indirect kick on the 18yard line but justice prevailed as Yaya's knock back at the back post found energetic Esau Mvula whose blast went past a cluster of legs to send predominantly Ajax Hotspurs juniors into a frenzy.

Mvula could have grabbed a quick fire hatrick with his thunderbolts twice kissing both ends of the uprights with the goalkeeper at sea. Finally Hotspurs remembered how to win and finally the showed why they are one of the giants of this league and why they command such respect. For Big XI Prince Gambe was outstanding and showed why he is a Zimbabwe Youth International at Under 15 level.

In other Division 2 league matches played around Bulawayo Tsholotsho continued their rich vein of form clobbering Green Mambas 4-1,  Pumula's  East Rovers played a one all draw with Zimplow as the policemen ZRP Byo Province outclassed Sauerstown Spurs 2 nil at Ross Camp
