BARBOURFIELDS Stadium will play host to two high profile Castle Lager Premier Soccer league matches this weekend starting with the big derby pitting red hot Chicken Inn against Highlanders on Saturday before champions Dynamos visit Bulawayo for the first time this season for a match against How Mine on the following day.
Football matches can not come better than this and a lot of thrills and spills are in store for football crazy fans in the city.
New boys Tsholotsho FC will get the ball rolling against fellow debutants Dongo Sawmill at White City Stadium on Friday although the match hangs in the balance after the Rusape based side's owners threw in the towel yesterday.
Focus though will be on the big derby as Chicken Inn seek to extend their dominance over their more decorated and illustrious opponents, who have not had the best of starts.
The two Bulawayo sides have met eight times since the GameCocks burst into the elite league in 2011, Bosso managing just a single win while Chicken Inn have two with the rest of the matches being drawn.
Interestingly, the first meeting on May 25, 2011 was during Week 10, just like this time around and Chicken Inn were the home side. Highlanders won the match 2-1 and that has been the only victory so for. Chicken Inn were winners in the first leg in 2013, winning 1-0 in a match in which Kudakwashe Mahachi was on song. The Game Cocks recorded a 1-0 win last year.
So the stage has been set and with bragging rights and points on offer, Bulawayo might witness an explosive match as the boys try to outdo one another on the field.
Joe Antipas' boys, on 20 points, lie second on the table due to an inferior goal difference to Triangle while Bongani Mafu's troops he sixth with 14 points and will naturally be eager to dose the gap on the leaders.
Highlanders might miss some of their players due to suspensions while star midfielder Danny Phiri makes a return to the starting line-up after missing three matches following his red card received during the 1-0 win over How Mine.
Both teams get into the match on the backdrop of 1-1 draws in their last matches, Chicken Inn drawing with ZPC Kariba while Bosso needed a late penalty to draw level against Harare City.
