Mhukahuru Professionals managing director Pascal Mudzikisi has been declared the 2016 Chartered Secretary of the Year. The runner-up is the dean of Great Zimbabwe University's Munhumutapa School of Commerce, Dr Joseph Bemani.
Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in Zimbabwe secretary and chief executive Farai Musamba made the announcement at the institute's annual conference banquet held at the Elephant Hills Resort in Victoria Falls on Friday (September 22) evening.
Apart from having nearly four decades of experience in local government administration and finance, with his main areas of expertise being finance, administration and entrepreneurship, Mr Mudzikisi has held a number of civic positions in Masvingo.
He has been chairman of the Masvingo City Business Advisory Board and chairman of the Masvingo-Kernen Association. Kernen is a German city with which Masvingo is twinned.
According to the citation read by Dr Musamba before he was presented with the Chartered Secretary of the Year Trophy, Mr Mudzkisi last year, as chairman of this association, successfully solicited for donations for projects that benefited at least three less privileged homes. A number of street kids were also removed from the streets to embark on income generating projects.
Mr Mudzikzisi offers accountancy services to businesses in the Masvingo region. He is also involved in mixed commercial farming and retailing activities. He is a significant farm produce supplier to supermarkets in Masvingo.
Last year he diversified into the hospitality sector with the establishment of a highway food court on the Masvingo-Mutare highway. This venture has created jobs in the farming community within which it is located.
Mr Mudzikisi is a fellow member of ICSAZ. He holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI)/Maastricht University, as well as a Diploma in Local Government Administration from Domboshava Training Centre.
He has close to four decades of experience in local government administration and finance. His main areas of expertise are in finance, administration and entrepreneurship.
He is a board member of Mambo Press, secretary of a farmers' association in Masvingo, chairman of Victoria Primary School Development Association and a member of the ICSAZ Education and Nominations committees.
Mr Mudzikisi is also a staunch supporter of the institute's Annual Charity Golf Tournament, the proceeds of which are donated to charitable organisations.
Dr Bemani, the runner-up for the 2016 Chartered Secretary of the Year Award, has 36 years of extensive and professional experience at different levels of supervisory management, 23 of which are in higher education.
His areas of expertise are administration, human capital development and public relations. He spearheaded linkages between the Great Zimbabwe University and accounting professional institutions in Zimbabwe.
In 2016 he superintended the introduction and accreditation of a number of new degree programmes at Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate levels at Great Zimbabwe University (GZU).
This helped solve the problem faced by non-degree awarding institutions, the citation read by Dr Musamba said.
"This opened the doors for a number of completing or near completing students of the Institute to obtain a degree, thereby promoting brand leadership and compliance with regulators," the citation said.
Dr Bemani successfully registered a university faculty as a member of the Central and East European Management Association (CEEMAN), making it the first of only two Zimbabwean universities to obtain such membership. CEEMAN is headquartered in Slovenia.
He also successfully registered the Munhumutapa School of Commerce as the only school in Zimbabwe to be a member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), which has its headquarters in the United States of America.
Dr Musamba said these notable achievements had contributed immensely to the human capital development goal of the global village.
Dr Bemani has a doctorate in Business Management, PhD in Management, Master's degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Accountancy degree. He is chairman of the Masvingo Branch of ICSAZ.
